A battery that has been sitting for a long time without being charged will have its life shortened so usually with hybrids, I prefer one with mileage that matches its age. The situation you are in is very common at any time over 10 years age in every hybrid. I replaced a battery under warranty in a first gen Honda Insight I bought used. In 30k miles that car had $7000 in warranty repairs. My brother had the hybrid battery in his Prius fail and he got it repaired for $1000 by a local shop. All hybrid and plug-in hybrid carmakers in the U.S. must offer a battery warranty of at least eight years or 100,000 miles, and California and the 13 states that follow its emissions rules mandate
